Sonoma State Runs By Southern Methodist
Rohnert Park, CA - Sonoma State got a big road win with a 18-8 victory over Southern Methodist. Lead by Jackson Feinstein & Andrew Moore in the goal and Joey Piombo on offense the Seawolves started fast and never looked back.
The game was played in Reno, NV on Sunday morning at 11:30. Cooler temperatures and altitude provided both teams with some challenges. From the opening face-off, the Seawolves offense was clicking scoring on all three of their first three possessions. The rest of the quarter was all Sonoma as the Seawolves gave up a few goals but ended the 1st quarter up 8-3.
Going into the second quarter both teams settled down and it was a defensive battle with Sonoma getting 3 goals while giving up one. Some big saves from goalie Andrew Moore kept the Mustangs off the board.
The third quarter was more Sonoma as the Seawolves snagged another 3 goals to lead 14-5 after three. Going into the fourth quarter the Seawolves didn't look back winning the quarter 4-3 with goalie Jackson Feinstein making some huge saves.
"The team rebounded in a big way with this victory." state Head Coach Panchito Ojeda. "SMU is a tough team who battled hard every minute of the game. Looking forward to seeing us back on the practice field this week preparing for the gauntlet in San Diego."
Joey Piombo lead the offense with six goals but there was big contributions from Trent Jones (2G, 3A), Spencer O'Reilly (4G, 1A), and Chase Barloga (2G, 2A). Sonoma was lead at the faceoff X by Philipe Devaranne who started the game 5-5 on faceoffs. Defensively goalies Andrew Moore (4GAA, 4SV) & Jackson Feinstein (4GAA, 9SV) held down the fort.
