Colin O'Kane Remembrance and Decal
Today the Sonoma State Men's Lacrosse program is honoring the memory of Colin O’Kane. Colin, a standout defensemen for Sonoma State lacrosse from 2010-2011, died suddenly on this date, June 3, at 25 in 2016 from undiagnosed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). In efforts to raise awareness for HCM Colin’s family has created the Colin O’Kane Foundation intended to help raise money to send boys and girls to lacrosse camps and support research into hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). The Sonoma State Men’s Lacrosse team will pay homage by wearing a commemorative HCM ribbon decal beginning in fall 2021. The decal shows Colin’s last name inside a red ribbon used to symbolize hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
The Sonoma State Men's Lacrosse Team is proud to join the O'Kane family in honoring the life of their son Colin who played for the Seawolves and passed away in 2016. "What makes this really special is that it was an effort initiated by the players to value the brotherhood of the SSU program and connect with the O'Kane family to pay tribute to Colin’s legacy," shares Coach Hewitt. "Colin will be a part of our 2022 season and positively impact the lives of those in our program for years to come."
