Seawolves Announce 2026 Captains

The Seawolves are excited to announce four captains to lead the way for the upcoming 2026 season. These four young men were elected by their teammates and coaches to steer the ship for the Seawolves this upcoming spring. They are:

Benen Powers (Sr.): A four year starter at attack, Benen has been a weapon for the Seawolves since the day he stepped on campus. Benen has earned all league honors each year (3rd team 2023, 2nd team 2024, 3rd team 2025) and will look to build on his already stellar career to bring home a championship with his fellow seniors. Benen's development as a feeder has been particularly promising, and his presence should make for a potent offensive attack for the SSU offense this season. Benen is a ferocious competitor and he will look to continue to build off his last two seasons where he accumulated 58 goals, 49 assists, and 65 ground balls for the Seawolves.

Dustin Smith (Sr.): After primarily playing long stick midfielder through his first three seasons (and earning all league in the last two seasons), Dustin will officially move to short stick midfield to lead the midfield unit on offense. Dustin possesses an uncanny ability at recovering ground balls paired with elite conditioning (Smith once ran a 5:15 mile in cleats on Beauj field ... after a two hour practice). Combine these attributes with a knack for making clutch plays (you might remember his buzzer beater against Cal last year) and it is safe to say Dustin will make a huge impact for the Seawolves this season. Smith recorded 18 goals and 4 assists in his last two seasons (playing mostly LSM), along with collecting 88 GB's.

Nick Frangione (Sr.): Frangione returns for his second year starting at attack after earning honorable mention all league honors last season. Originally beginning his career playing one season at the University of Oregon, Frangione became a pivotal player within Sonoma's offense last season, after breakout performances against Cal Poly (4 goals) and Nevada (4 goals, 1 assist). Frangione is known for his physical presence in the ride and for his cannon of a righty rip. Frangione elected to return for another year this season, and he will be a huge part in SSU's pursuit towards a championship this spring. Frangione brings a true veteran presence to the team, and he racked up 22 goals and 6 assists in his breakout campaign last season.

Dylan Hardy (Sr.): In an unselfish move, Hardy started his career with the Seawolves in between the pipes, where he started at goalie his freshman season. Hardy was switched to close defense (his position of choice) his sophomore year and quickly showed he could be a dominant force. Hardy arrived in 2024  on defense as a ground ball machine before an injury cut his sophomore year short. Hardy quickly responded his junior year to play all 15 games and record 69 GB's, earning him 1st team all league and honorable mention All American honors. At 6'4", Hardy possesses the size, speed, skill, and lacrosse IQ that make him a monster for opposing offenses to deal with, both on defense and in transition. Dylan will be featured in the heart of the Noma defense, where he will play both LSM and close defense this year for the Seawolves.

The Sonoma State Men's Lacrosse team will begin their season on the road where they will travel to take on UC Davis at 6pm on Saturday, January 31st under the lights at Dairy Field. We look forward to seeing all of our fans in support!
