Sonoma State Men’s Lacrosse will face another difficult schedule in 2014. The Seawolves, who finished 7th last season, will face 10 teams who finished in the Top 25 in 2013. Six of those teams were selected for the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association’s National Tournament in Greenville, SC last May.
“The 2014 season will once again be a challenging one for the Seawolves. It is going to give our players a chance to play one of the toughest schedules in the country,” said Head Coach Panchito Ojeda. “We are particularly looking forward to hosting a double header with local high school program Casa Grande when we play Chapman University. It is a great chance to continue to grow the game in Northern California.”
Sonoma State opens the 2014 season on the road against UC-Davis on Sat. Feb 8th. They return home to take on the Gauchos of Santa Barabara on Feb 22nd. The Seawolves head out on the road for a game against conference foe Santa Clara on March 1st, before returning home for a game against University of Florida on March 5th.
Sonoma will host the Chapman Panthers at Luchessi Park as a part of a double header with local high school Casa Grande on March 7th. Oregon State comes to town to do battle with the Seawolves on Sunday March 9th
The Seawolves are off for the week before heading out on Spring Break where they will take on University of San Diego on March 16th, Arizona State on March 19th, and Arizona on March 21st. The Seawolves stay on the road with another conference game against Chico State on Saturday March 29th.
Sonoma returns home to finish their season with home contests against Colorado on Friday April 4th and Cal Poly on Sunday April 6th. The following weekend the Cardinal of Stanford come to town for a game on April 12th. Sonoma finishes the regular season with University of California on April 19th.
“We love playing in the WCLL where there are great teams from top to bottom,” stated Ojeda. “Finishing with four home games, three of which are conference games, will be a great way to end our season.”
Sonoma will also participate in one scrimmage with Dominican University on Saturday Feburary 1st at Dominican at 1:00pm.
